Reading for Pleasure Analysis

LI: To read numbers, identify problems and find possible solutions.

For maths, we were analysing data. We were reading numbers on each of our statistical graph’s, identifying the problems of the answers and finding solutions for the problems. To do this, we gathered information about reading for pleasure in LS2 by answering a survey which had questions about reading for pleasure. We picked three questions to make graph’s about and identified the issues regarding the questions. To find the solutions to the issues we asked ourselves what we could do in order to solve the problems. I found this activity interesting because I was shocked about the amount of people who do not read for their pleasure.

Healthy Relationships

LI: To understand how a healthy relationship has a positive impact.

This week our Inquiry lesson was focused on showing how we think healthy relationships can have a positive impact.

In our DLO, we showed how healthy relationships can impact something in a positive manner and what healthy relationships are to us. We all have different opinions on healthy relationships and what we think it could have an impact on.

I enjoyed this activity because I like to explain my way of thinking and my perspective.

Vocabulary Knowledge

LI: To explore and extend your vocabulary knowledge.

Our focus for writing was based on exploring a range of different words in order to expand our vocabulary knowledge. First we had learning conversations to explain our opinions using words in the correct context. After that, we collaborated with our partners so we could build our knowledge on four words which are: urge, commend, banter and stern. Urge is to persuade or talk someone into doing something. Commend is praising or congratulating someone for their accomplishments. Banter means to tease someone in a joking/silly way. Being stern is being strict or serious to someone. We role-played our explanations to paint a better picture of our understanding. We extended our vocabulary by collaborating with each other, having learning conversations and roleplaying our explanations. I found this activity enjoyable because we could work together in order to explore new and different words.

T-Ball

LI: To explain the game of T-Ball.

On Thursday, we played T-Ball with Coach Cameron from Kelly Sports. Cameron explained how to play T-ball and the rules of the game. To make sure we are ready, we played a warm-up game. The game consisted of the taggers needing to tag the legs of the people around them with pool noodles. This helped us to get ready to run, bat the ball and our hearts pumping. After the warm-up, we started with our game.

T-ball is a game similar to Baseball, there are four bases and two teams. If you are on the batting team and hit the ball, you need to run to each base and make sure you place your foot inside the base. If you fail to do so, the opposing team (fielders) have a better opportunity to get you out. You have 3 strikes, when you hit the T stand that counts as one strike. Once the fielding team manages to get 3 people out, they switch sides.

My group called the “Yellow Dogs” won both rounds that we had played. I really enjoyed playing T-ball and learning how to play by the rules and using the different skills we had learnt.
